What technical parameters need to be understood before selecting a vortex flowmeter

Before selecting the model, the type of the medium to be measured and the flow value (which can be an estimated value) should be determined first. Then, according to the flow range corresponding to the vortex flowmeter when measuring different media as shown in the table, the specification of the vortex flowmeter should be selected.

2. The flow rate of the medium being measured in the pipeline must be within the flow range of the flowmeter; otherwise, it cannot be used. It is more reasonable to be at 1/2 to 2/3 of the flow range of the flowmeter.

3. If the actual pipe diameter is larger or smaller than the selected flowmeter diameter, a contracted pipe or an expanded pipe should be used to change the diameter to ensure the correct use of the flowmeter.

4. Select the vortex signal output mode based on the application of the vortex flowmeter:

When the measured medium is a compressible fluid and the temperature and pressure of the on-site medium vary greatly, it is recommended to use a vortex sensor with remote transmission of pulse signals and a flow totalizer with temperature and pressure compensation. Pressure transmitters, temperature transmitters or Pt100 need to be purchased separately by the user.

2) If the flowmeter is installed in a good indoor environment and does not require remote signal transmission, only the flow value needs to be read on site. Moreover, the installation location of the flowmeter is convenient for operation and data reading. It is recommended that users choose a battery-powered on-site direct-reading vortex flowmeter. However, when the flowmeter is installed outdoors and exposed to the atmosphere, battery-powered on-site direct-reading vortex flowmeters are generally not selected.

3) When the installation environment of the flowmeter is poor or the installation location is not convenient for on-site reading of the flow value or centralized management, it is recommended to use a sensor that outputs pulse signals and is equipped with a flow totalizer, or a vortex transmitter with a 4-20mA standard current output.

4) When it is necessary to observe the flow on-site and transmit the signal remotely at the same time, it is recommended to choose a vortex transmitter with on-site direct reading and 4~20mA output.

5) When on-site reading is not required and only the standard signal needs to be transmitted over long distances, it is recommended to choose a vortex transmitter with a 4-20mA standard current output.

5. Select a high-temperature or low-temperature vortex flowmeter based on the temperature of the medium being measured. The high-temperature type with a temperature range of 250℃ to 350℃ is generally equipped with a radiator.

6. Explosion-proof vortex flowmeters should be selected for explosion-proof areas.
