How to deal with the sudden weakening of the signal during the application of an ultrasonic flowmeter

Ultrasonic flowmeters can generally operate normally for a long time without maintenance in the future. After that, maintenance and daily inspections are required. Not receiving the signal or having a too weak signal are both minor issues. So there’s no need to be surprised if it occurs. Just do the following steps carefully and it will be easy to solve.

How to deal with the problem of weak signals from ultrasonic flowmeters?

1. Mainly acknowledge whether the pipeline is filled with fluid.

2. If the pipe is too close to the wall, the probe can be installed on the pipe diameter with an inclined Angle instead of on the non-horizontal pipe diameter. The Z-method should be used to install the probe.

3. Carefully select the fine parts of the pipe and thoroughly polish them to a bright finish. Apply sufficient coupling agent and install the probe properly.

4. Carefully and gradually move each probe near the equipment points respectively to find the points with strong signals, preventing the ultrasonic beam from reflecting out of the expected area due to scaling on the inner wall of the pipe or partial deformation of the pipe and thus missing the equipment points that can receive strong signals.

5. For metal pipes with severe scaling on the inner wall of ultrasonic flowmeters, the method of striking can be used to make the scaling part fall off or crack. However, it should be noted that this method may sometimes be of little help to the transmission of ultrasonic waves due to the gap between the scaling and the inner wall.
